Another everbearer (day neutral) strawberry variety from the Edward Vinson breeding programme, with improved flavour and shelf life. Eves Delight is susceptible to rain damage; it needs to be protected with polythene tunnels. This variety will convince with taste and yield potential.
Flowering and picking period
Eves Delight is a bit later than Sweet Eve, but has a good production from autumn initiated flowers. Eves Delight is suited to long season production. To optimise total yield the autumn initiated flower should be utilised.
Fruit quality
Simple flower trusses giving large average fruit size and an excellent fruit shape. Fruits are highly flavoured with good aroma. It tastes sweet and juicy and has a very high brix-level in excess of 10%. A firm skin ensures an excellent shelf life. During warm weather fruits can get a slightly darker colour and also be seedy during warmer days and colder nights. Eves Delight is sensitive for rain, fruits can crack open at the crown.
Productivity
Early planted crops (large crowned potted plants) achieve up to 400gm from the autumn initiated flowers and then go on to produce a final yield of between 900gms and 1.5 kg per plant.
Pest and disease susceptibility
Eves Delight is tolerant to Powdery Mildew (Sphaerotheca mac.) Strawberries are susceptible to Anthracnose (Colletotrichum acutatum).
