Appearance
Korona is one of the tastiest strawberries. The large dark red berries have an excellent aroma.
Flowering and harvest period
Korona forms large, rather open plants that flower mid-season with large flowers characterised by well-developed stamens.
Fruit quality
Korona is an attractive plant that produces reasonably large fruit. The conical fruits are dark red, both on the outside and the inside. They have a very good flavour, with an excellent strawberry aroma, and are very juicy. Unfortunately the fruits are also fairly vulnerable. The fruits rapidly decrease in size after a few harvests. The plants produce ternate leaves, but also quadrifoliate and quinate leaves. They are dark green and slightly concave.
Productivity
Korona is a productive variety. It is difficult to harvest the fruit without the calyx. At the beginning of the harvest the fruits are often broad and grooved from the calyx to the tip.
Pest and disease susceptibility
Korona is moderately susceptible to botrytis (Botrytis cineria) and has reasonable resistance to verticillium wilt (Verticillium dahliae), mildew (Sphaerotheca macularis) and red stele root rot (Phytophthora fragariae).
